THE women's cricket team has given the nation an Eid gift in the form of winning the first gold medal in Asian games for their country. They have filled us with pride in the whole world.

While we are considered in the world to be narrow-minded, biased and discriminate people who maltreat women, this win would make them change their views. This will also encourage other girls to move forward and show their talent in international sports.

We should be thankful for the support of their families who sent their daughters and sisters to play the outdoor game and excel.

I would request the president and the prime minister to honour and recognise them in the same manner as it was done with men's cricket team on winning international competitions.
