RAWALPINDI, Nov 21: Two homes and two shops were looted in Rawalpindi, depriving their inmates of cash, gold jewellery and other valuables, police said on Sunday. A senior lawyer of the Supreme Court lost cash and other valuables after burglars broke into her house in Defense Housing Authority’s Phase 1.

Samina Khan along with her family had gone to her sister’s house in Mirpur to celebrate Eid.

On her return, she found the doors broken and households scattered. She said the burglars were also carrying liquor, as empty bottles were found in the drawing room.

She said the robbers took away 5,000 dirhams, US $500, Rs200,000, gold ornaments, a digital camera and CCTV cameras, which she had planned to install around her house.

She said when she went to lodge a complaint with the DHA security staff, they asked her to go to police.

Though the police visited the crime scene, they did not take any fingerprints nor did they seek CCTV footage from the DHA.

CCTV cameras have been installed at the entry and exit points of the DHA, monitoring every vehicle entering and leaving the locality.

Two robbers entered a bakery in Sadiqabad and took away cash, gold jewellery and cell phones from its owner and customers, police said.

Rashid Raza said he was busy with customers when two unidentified persons walked into the bakery and took out pistols.

He said the gunmen took cash, cell phones from customers, including gold earrings of a woman. He said from the bakery, the robbers took away Rs70,000.

In another similar incident, four robbers took away cash and gift items from a shop in Banni police area. Zaheer Ahmed, owner of the shop, told police that the gunmen took away Rs35,000, watches, perfumes, and other valuables.

They also snatched Rs3,000 and four cell phones from customers.

Burglars also broke into the house of an army officer in Lalazar colony and made off with certificates worth Rs1 million and other costly items, police said.

Lt Colonel Mohammad Junaid Akbar told police that on his return, he found locks of the home broken and households scattered.
