Two car lifters arrested TAXILA, Nov 21: National Highway and Motorway police (NHW&MP) on Sunday arrested car lifters and recovered a stolen vehicle.

Umair Shoaib, spokesman of National Highway and Motorway police (NHW&MP) told newsmen here at Hassanabdal that acting on a tip off the police signaled a car to stop on Islamabad-Peshawar motorways (M-1) but the driver ran it away.

After brief chase, the police intercepted the vehicle and arrested Afzal Abbassi and Mohammad Atif. Later the accused were handed over to Hassanabdal police along with the vehicle. — Correspondent

PPP stands for the poor CHAKWAL, Nov 21: People’s Youth Organisation (PYO) President Ch Haider Aziz on Sunday said that Pakistan People’s Party worked for the poor.

Addressing the workers of PYO, Mr Haider said PPP had done a remarkable job for the poor in difficult situation.

He said that to serve the people was the mission of the martyrs of Ghari Khuda Bux.

CII appointment RAWALPINDI, Nov 21: Tehreek Nafaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafariya (TNFJ) chief Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi on Sunday said appointing heads of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and other religious organisations under political deal was contrary to the constitution.

He urged the government to give this right to all recognised schools of thought in phases, instead of posting hand-picked people.

He stated this while delivering presidential address at the two-day meeting of TNFJ Pakistan.

“Representation in state organisations on the basis of equality is our right which we shall never forego,” he said. — A Reporter

Sikh yatrees greeted ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti has felicitated Sikh yatrees on the birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the minister said, “Pakistan’s doors are open for the Sikh Yatrees from around the world and they can come here freely to perform their religious activities.”

He said that Baba Guru Nanak propagated the message of religious tolerance, humanity, equality and harmony.

“Pakistani Sikhs are patriotic and always contribute and make their best efforts for the betterment and reconstruction of the country,” the minister said.

He said that government was making personal laws for the protection of minorities and in this regard Sikh marriage act will be presented in the parliament soon. — A Reporter
