LAHORE, Sept 21: Dark bay gelding Decent Fellow, with two victories on the trot, will be attempting to make it a hat trick at the third Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse Sunday.
Owned by Syed Tasweer Hussain Shah, Decent Fellow, has already registered back to back impressive wins within four days on September 11 and September 15. He will be participating in the second race among a dozen runners.
Royal Bullet, Waseem Love and Dillagi may fight for the lesser remunerative positions.
A small card of five events will be decided in the afternoon. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
The feature event, the Chakwal Plate, a class IV & V combined handicap race has ten acceptors, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. In this event the bay colt Desert Dream is being fancied to win.
Desert Dream was in a dramatic way withdrawn from Muhammad Tughlaq Cup shortly before the start of the race on Sunday last. As the contestants reached the starting point, it transpired that he was not sent to perform on merit.
Prior to it there was a commotion in the public when his odds had eased upward from 40 to 100, to evens.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards got the colt examined by the Veterinary Officer and on his recommendation withdrew Desert Dream from the contest. This was a way out to save the public, who had backed him.
It was also announced that the entries of Desert Dream has been stopped in races for 14 days. Surprisingly the colt is among the runners for Sunday’s feature event!
The fourth and supporting event, the Burewala Plate, class VII division 1 & 11 has a dozen runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.
It is packed with some really good performers, who if on job should provide the racing fans much to cheer about.
The Conqueror will be going to make amends for his defeat in last outing on September 15 while Lake District and Love Moon will be there to make it a closely contested race.
In all, 15 runners will start off to the starting gates in the third event if all are declared to run. Of them four come into reckoning, namely, Green Hill, Good Justice, Dhandhana and Asif Love. They should fight to get into the winner’s enclosure.
The opener has a largest field of 17 acceptors. Filly Song Of Freedom, who was beaten in her last outing will be going all out to make amends this time.
The first race will start at 3pm.
