MINGORA: Nov 11: Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti on Thursday announced a hefty amount of around Rs10 billion for carrying out rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood devastated people and infrastructure in Swat district.

He announced the package while addressing a public meeting on the occasion of inaugurating upgradation of Khwazakhela grid station and later talking to flood affected people and notables in Kalam teshil. Senior provincial ministers, MPAs, divisional and district authorities were also present on the occasion.

The provincial government, he said, had allocated Rs4.5 billion to rehabilitate and rebuild flood-stricken people and infrastructure, adding rehabilitation process would start within two months. He said Rs4 billion would be provided as compensation to owners of the flood damaged houses. He said reconstruction of all damaged roads from Mingora city to Kalam was top priority of the government.

Additionally, Mr Hoti said, Rs260 million had been released for helping terrorism affected families which would soon be distributed among heirs of those killed and injured.

He said the government would take all out measures for assistance and rehabilitation of terrorism and flood affected families in Swat district.

He said upgradation of grid station in Khwazakhela will ensure power facilities to a dozen villages of the area.

Mr Hoti stated that peace had been restored with support of the people, saying, safeguarding and maintenance of peace was 'now our collective responsibility'.

The CM said the sacrifices of the people of Malakand division had made history. He also announced that classes in Swat Cadet College would commence from March next year.

The chief minister also handed over keys of heavy construction machinery to Communication and Works Department Secretary Habib Ali.

Later, talking to notables in Mataltan and Kalam, the chief minister said Rs1.40 billion would be utilised for construction of roads for promotion of tourism in the region.

He announced Rs100 million for restoration of electricity infrastructure and Rs50 million for construction of Madyan-Kalam road in Kalam tehsil of Swat. He also approved construction of stadium in Atror (Kalam).

Mr Hoti assured flood affected peasants of providing seeds and fertilizers. He said the government would continue efforts till complete rehabilitation of the last affected family.
