QUETTA, Sept 19: A full bench of the Balochistan High Court, headed by Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed, has upheld the election tribunal’s decision disallowing Ghulam Akbar Lasi from contesting the October elections.

The bench took up the constitutional petition of Lasi, provincial general secretary of PPP, Balochistan, for hearing, and after listening to his lawyer’s arguments, rejected the petition and disallowing him from taking part in the election from NA-270 Lasbela, and two provincial assembly seats from the same area.

Earlier, the returning officer rejected Lasi’s papers, pleading that he had been arrested by the NAB in a case, and his release was the result of a plea-bargain.

He filed an application with the Election Tribunal, Balochistan, against the RO’s decision.

But the tribunal upheld the RO’s decision prohibiting him from contesting the elections. The full bench of the Balochistan court also rejected his Constitutional petition.

Also, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, a senior leader of PPP on Thursday withdrew his constitutional petition filed against the acceptance of the nomination papers of his rival candidate, Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind.
