GUJRANWALA, Nov 6: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry will compel the government to provide uninterrupted gas and power supply to industries, federation president Sultan Ahmad Chawala said while speaking at Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) here on Saturday.

Chawla alleged that the government's wrong policies and tough conditions of the International Monetary Fund had ruined the economy. He said that unemployment and poverty due to closure of industries had caused frustration and panic among factory owners as well as workers. He demanded of the government take solid steps to eliminate gas and power supply loadshedding.

Earlier, GCCI president Sheikh Sarwat Ikram and other office-bearers welcomed Chawla and apprised him of problems local manufacturers and traders were facing owing to decline in businesses. LEGAL ADVISERS:

The city district government has appointed legal advisers to various town municipal administrations (TMAs) on the recommendation of PML-N parliamentarians and issued a notification on Saturday.

According to the notification, Amir Munir Baghari was appointed legal adviser to Nandipur Town TMA, Muhammad Ishaq, Rana Ashfaq Ahmad Shafi, Ibrar Masood Jan and Bashir Ahmad Malik Qila Didar Singh Town, Maqbool Hussain Awan, Kamoki, Maqbool Ahmad Qureshi, Naushara Virkan, Zaheer Anjum Baig, Wazirabad, Muhammad Ashraf Kahlon, Waqar Hussain Butt, Muhammad Suleman Gujjar and Sheikh Qaiser, Khiali Shahpur Town, while Malik Muhammad Nawaz and Syed Habib Ahmad Shah were appointed legal advisers to the Gujranwala Development Authority. The Khiali Shahpur police on Saturday solved a blind robbery-cum-murder case and arrested three suspects.

Talking to reporters, City SP Rai Ijaz Ahmad said that Waqas Ali, Muhammad Afzal and Amir Shakeel looted the house of Muhammad Mushtaq in Ghulzar Colony a few days ago and killed him when he offered resistance. He said that suspects were relatives of the victim and they admitted to their guilt before interrogators.

The Anti-Terrorism Court-I on Saturday adjourned till Monday (tomorrow) the hearing of Sialkot lynching case and an application of former DPO for exemption of court appearance on account of his departure to Saudi Arabia to perform Haj. The court also issued notices to witnesses to record their statements on Monday.

Former DPO Waqar Ahmad Chohan petitioned that he was going to Saudi Arabi to perform Haj on Nov 10, therefore, he be exempted from appearing in court. However, the court adjourned the hearing owing to lawyers strike. CONVICTED:

A sessions court sentenced two men to death and fined them Rs55,000 each in a double murder case on Saturday.

According to the prosecution, Saeed Ahmad and Usman had killed Sajid and Abid during a dacoity bid in Farid Town on Feb 23.
