HYDERABAD, Sept 17: The president, Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union, Abdul Latif Nizamani, has said problems of Hesco employees have increased after induction of new officers in the company.

He was speaking to the provincial wing of the labour union at the labour hall, Gari Khata, here on Tuesday.

Nizamani said the employees of Hesco were working under tremendous pressure as a result of which ratio of accidents had also increased.

He regretted the employees always obeyed orders of their superiors but they were being unnecessarily punished and sent on forced retirement on a one-week or 14-day notice under the presidential ordinance.

In the past, he said, additional units were transferred to the provincial department under the orders of the Hesco officials but when an amount of Rs140 million was refunded to the Sindh government by Hesco, the employees were blamed for it and they were sent on forced retirement.

Speaking on the occasion, the general-secretary of the union, Khursheed Ahmad, said due to the efforts of the union those employees who were transferred to far-flung areas were re-posted near their hometowns.

He said Wapda had also restored medical facilities to the employees and problems of move-over, half day wages, overtime allowance and travelling allowance were resolved.

He urged Wapda officials to stop insulting and humiliating the employees on the pretext of holding open forums.
