RAWALPINDI, Sept 16: Five persons, including the wife of a policeman, were killed in separate incidents on Monday in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

In the first incident, Imrana Bibi committed suicide by setting herself on fire after having a quarrel with her mother-in-law in Bara Kahu on Sunday, police said.

They said during the quarrel, Imrana threatened to commit suicide. However, the issue was settled for the time being by Dil Nawaz, Imrana’s husband.

On Monday, Dil Nawaz was preparing to offer prayers in the afternoon when his wife Imrana went to the kitchen and set herself on fire. On hearing her screams, he rushed to her rescue, but by the time he extinguished the flames, she had sustained serious burns, the police said.

The woman was rushed to the Federal Government Services Hospital where she died.

In another incident, a 55-year-old woman was run over by a speeding wagon on Islamabad Highway on Monday, police said.

Zarina Bibi was crossing the road when a wagon (IDT-2222) knocked her down. The driver managed to escape from the scene, the police said.

In the third incident, the wife of a policeman was shot dead by her son in Dhoke Malyar Tarnol in the early hours of Monday.

Police said Saira Bano had married Gul Zareen, a police constable, after the death of her first husband.

Sajjad, the only son of Saira from her first husband, was not happy on his mother’s second marriage, police said.

On Sunday night, Gul Zareen and his wife were sleeping when Sajjad entered the house and shot his mother dead, they said.

In another incident, some persons shot a person to death in Dhoke Matkal. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sultan, a prisoner in Adiala jail, died on Monday. Sultan had been in the jail since 1991. He was an addict, the police said.

BODY FOUND: Police found a body of an unidentified person from Waris Khan area on Monday.

The police say the person appears to have been murdered.
