GUJRAT, Oct 26: Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali Gul, the prime minister's adviser on political affairs and an archrival of the Chaudhries of Gujrat, has ruled out any alliance between the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the PML-Q's faction led by the Chaudhry brothers.
Local PPP workers have also expressed their concern over reports that the PML-Q could join the coalition government in the Centre.
Commenting on the meeting between Federal Law Minister Babar Awan and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Lahore on Monday, Gul, a member of the PPP's central executive committee, called the Chaudhries of Gujrat “undemocratic” and “unreliable” people and said that democratic parties like the PPP could not afford any alliance with such people.
However, he endorsed President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's policy of reconciliation and dialogue with all political forces to strengthen democracy and said Monday's meeting was part of the PPP policy of reaching out to every one.
He said neither his party was making any alliance with the PML-Q nor formation of an alliance had been discussed at any party forum. He said there was a difference between political alliance and political contacts and people must understand that difference. — Waseem Ashraf Butt
