HYDERABAD, Nov 10: The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said it was the primary responsibility of teachers to produce quality students who were able to play a leading role in the development of society and the country.
He was presiding over a seminar on “Qualities and Responsibilities of a Teacher”, organized by the Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, at the Elsa Qazi campus (old campus), Hyderabad, the other day.
Mr Siddiqui said that a teacher must be a role model for the students. He said that society expected the teachers to produce the best stuff in every field of endeavour.
He urged teachers to have a complete mastery over their subject to transfer full knowledge to their pupils.
He said the University of Sindh as well as the faculty of Education was concentrating on producing trained teachers, and added that a good teacher in fact was a reformer of society and expressed hope that the faculty of Education would continue producing exceptional teachers.
The vice chancellor announced a TV set for the teaching department and another for the Metha Ram Hostel of the University of Sindh. He also sanctioned new furniture for the Metha Ram Hostel. He asked that the faculty of Education building, Elsa Qazi campus be repaired.
Renowned scholar Dr N. A. Baloch, while speaking as the chief guest, said that the need of the hour for the teachers was to realise their responsibilities towards the students and the society.
He said a teacher must possess the latest knowledge of his subject in this fast-changing world.
Dr Manzoorul Haq, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the importance of teachers and teaching institutions.
Prof M. Aslam Kambooh said that teaching was dependent on the school environment, and added that the students would only respond if the teacher had full grasp of the subject.
Referring to a survey conducted by the Board of Education in England in 1937, Prof Kambooh said that it was conducted to ascertain the most important qualities and responsibilities of a good teacher. He elucidated that in the survey, the teachers, the pupils, teacher trainers and others reported the qualities of a good teacher as personality, will, intelligence, sympathy, tact, frankness, and a sense of humour.
An educational exhibition was also arranged by various departments of the faculty.
DAIRY BOARD: The Sindh government has nominated Haji Dildar Ahmed Qureshi, chief patron of All Sindh Livestock Dealers Association and Mr Mohammad Sohail Memon, livestock dealer of Hyderabad, as members of Sindh Dairy Development Board, says a notification issued by chief secretary of the province.
