DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 10. Local Hizbul Mujahideen Nazim Junaid Akhwan, who had sustained serious bullet wounds in police firing during the Friday’s clash at Shadan Lond, died here on Saturday.

With his death at the local DHQ Hospital, the toll has risen to four. Three protesters — Hafiz Abdul Karim, Falak Sher and Asif — had died on Nov 9 when police opened fire on a mob.

Protesters’ representatives on Friday had demanded Rs1.5 million for each dead as compensation. But, the matter could not be resolved on Sunday as the district Nazim was busy in meeting with some high officials.

It is pertinent to mention that on Nov 2, a local high school headmaster had informed police and administration that a religious party workers had destroyed some furniture to force the school administration to close down the institution.

Later, they also intercepted an army truck, but the Kala police did not take any notice of the incidents.

Before Nov 9, the district police did not cooperate with the district Nazim and the DCO. But the DCO directed EDOs to take precautionary measures for the Nov 9 strike. The EDOs held meetings with transporters and religious leaders and asked them to remain peaceful.

On Friday, the DCO and district Nazim were not informed in time by the police about the clash.

According to the district nazim, he did not give any order to open fire upon the protesters.
