72m eligible to vote in elections

ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: According to latest data provided by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to the Election Commission (EC), 72 million voters are eligible to the right of franchise in the Oct 10 general elections.

The EC had directed Nadra to provide computerized National Identity Cards to eligible voters before Oct 5. However, the EC announced that both old and new ID cards would be valid for identification at the time of polling.

According to the latest details provided to the EC by Nadra, there are 38.70 million male and 33.15 female voters in the country. Out of this, 203,371 male and 180,190 female voters are in Islamabad, 21.86 million male and 19.37 million female voters are in Punjab, 8.76 million male and 7.40 million female voters in Sindh, 4.93 male and 3.92 female voters in the NWFP, 2.12 male and 1.80 female voters in Balochistan and 815,704 male and 469,945 female voters are in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and other areas.

There are 5.2 million youth between the age of 18 and 21 years, who have also been included in the voters list.—APP
