Vaqas sinks in blaze of bogeys

LAHORE, Sept 14: Overnight leader Vaqas Ahmad sank in a blaze of bogeys as Shoaib Bukhari grabbed the lead after 54 holes in the 19th Governor’s Cup golf tournament at the Lahore Gymkhana Saturday.

Vaqas, who shot a 70 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead, dropped six strokes, including a triple bogey on the ninth, in four holes. But the zero handicapper still managed to card a 71 — thanks to birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 15th, 17th and 18th.

He trailed Shoaib by one stroke who carded a seven-under 65. The 10-stroke handicapper had shot a 71 on the first day.

Bukhari could have done better had he not completed the back-nine at four-over 39 after having done the from nine at one-under 35.

Brig Anwarul Haq of Garrison, a nine handicapper, is also bracketed with Vaqas at the second position at an aggregate of three-under 141. he shot 71 on the second day after 70 on the first day.

The nine handicapper Danyal Jehangir (Lahore Gymkhana), at even-144 (72+72) was in sole position of the third place.

Qadir Shah (12 handicapper from Sargodha) was in fourth place at two-over 146 while Dr Haroon Ihsan (nine handicapper from Gymkhana) was fifth and one stroke behind.

In the Gross section, Vaqas was the leader with an aggregate of 141 (71+70) and leading Tariq Mehboob (77+75) by 11 strokes. Shahid Javed Khan (74+79) was at the third position followed up by Khawaja Imran Zubair 154.
