NEW YORK, Sept 13: Hundreds of Kashmiris demonstrated outside the UN Headquarters here on Friday as the Indian prime minister spoke to the UN General Assembly. They were protesting against the elections in the occupied Kashmir.

The protesters were carrying placards and chanting slogans against Indian Premier Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Speaking to the demonstrators, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry said the elections were no alternative for the right of self-determination.

Welcoming US President Bush’s addresses to the UN General Assembly on Thursday wherein he had asserted that all UN resolutions should be implemented, he said the resolutions calling for plebiscite in Kashmir should also be implemented soon. He pointed out that “while struggling for their rights the Kashmiris also condemn terrorism in all its forms including the state terrorism.”
