SIALKOT, Sept 13: Daska Saddar police claimed on Friday having recovered two illegal kalashnikoves from former MNA Muhammad Akram Khan’s house in Admakey Cheema village.
The Saddar SHO said that the raid was part of special campaign for recovery of illegal weapons launched in the Punjab on the IG’s orders. The MNA claimed the kalashnikoves were licensed while the police said the licences were expired.
Mr Khan’s relative Muhammad Azam Khan is contesting election from PPP platform for PP-130.
He has planned to move Lahore High Court against the police action. Further investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, Daska police arrested tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad Cheema’s brother Chaudhry Ali Akbar for not paying Rs0.5 million to a bank.
PESTICIDES: Farmers have urged the Punjab government to immediately launch a vigorous campaign to check the sale of substandard fertilizers and adulterated pesticides in Sialkot and Narowal districts.
Representatives of farmers, at a special meeting held here on Thursday, said that the district government remained miserably failed in curbing the menace.
They said that the government should announce a special relief package for growers and ensure uninterrupted supply of quality pesticides and fertilizers to the growers.
They said that increasing prices of POL products have added to the miseries of farmers, putting them under further financial burden.
They demanded that the government should grant interest-free loans to the farmers.
They warned that if immediate measures were not taken to stop the sale of substandard fertilizers and adulterated pesticides, the farmers would be forced to come on roads.
Syed Iqbal Ahmad Shah, Abdul Rahman Bagri, Mirza Ehsan Baig and Chaudhry Munawwar Ahmad spoke at the meeting.
SHARIF’S OUSTER: The PML-N leaders expressed their dismay over the ouster of Sharif family from national politics and said it exposed the ulterior motives of the military rulers.
Former chairman of Privatization Commission Khwaja Asif, PML-N candidate from NA-110, ex-MPA Idrees Ahmad Bajwa from NA-111, and former chief coordinator of 2010 programme Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal from NA-117, said on Friday the military rulers wanted to perpetuate in power.
They said both the parties have roots in masses and holding of general elections without the PML-N and the PPP would be a farce.
