HYDERABAD, Oct 12: The Minority Rights Commission of Pakistan has condemned the ransacking of a church in Karachi and burning of holy books by miscreants and demanded stern action against the culprits.

Chairman of the commission, M. Parkash and minority leader Elvis Stephan addressing a press conference on Monday said that some miscreants trespassed into the church in Shah Latif Town on the night of September 18, broke open the locks and desecrated Bible.

This has greatly hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community, they said and added that religious places of all the communities were sacred and it was the duty of every citizen to expose anti-state elements.

They also condemned the twin bomb blasts at the shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi and urged the government to beef up security at all the religious places throughout Pakistan and expose the culprits.

They alleged that the members of the minority communities were being discriminated against in the distribution of relief goods. They appealed to the government to help the flood affected people who belonged to minorities’ communities and ensure their rehabilitation along with others.

They urged the government to repair and renovate all religious places damaged during floods.

Sindh United Party leader Dr Dodo Maheri, Allama Dr Masood Jamal Khanzada Al-Qadri and Pir Agha Baab Jan Sarhandi of Matiari were also present at the press conference.
