LAHORE, Sept 10: Twelve returning officers (ROs) of Lahore submitted on Tuesday polling schemes for the general elections to the acting district returning officer (DRO), proposing setting up of 2,979 polling stations for around three million registered voters in the 12 National Assembly constituencies.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had fixed Tuesday’s deadline for submitting polling schemes.

NA-123 returning officer Hasan Mabroor could not meet the deadline and is likely to submit his scheme on Wednesday (today).

The schemes were submitted to additional district and sessions judge Khalid Mahmood Chaudhry who is acting as the Lahore DRO. Lahore’s newly appointed DRO, Mr Akram Baitu, would assume his charge on Wednesday (today).

The polling schemes suggest that there is one polling station for 1,021 voters. Three polling stations will be set up under tents in NA-130 owing to non-availability of buildings. Election rules allow setting up such polling stations where there is no building available.

As many as 262 combined polling stations for both male and female voters have been constituted in the provincial metropolis. A work force of 15,054 assistant presiding officers (two each for every polling booth) and 7,927 polling officers (one each for every polling booth) will be posted at the proposed 7,927 polling booths of the 12 National Assembly constituencies. The appointment letters of the polling staff will be issued by the ROs concerned on Sept 14.

Polling stations and booths have been selected by the ROs concerned after a one-week inspection of buildings to be used for the purpose in their respective constituencies.

According to the schemes, NA-118 has 243,707 registered voters — 131,493 male and 112,214 female. A total 237 polling stations will be set up in this constituency, including 118 each for male and female voters, and one combined polling booth. There will be 622 polling booths — 327 for male and 295 for female voters.

The constituency NA-119 has 280,155 registered voters of whom 151,856 are male and 128,299 female. A total 294 polling stations — 147 each for male and female voters — will be set up. There will be 698 polling booths in these polling stations, 370 for male and 328 for female voters. The NA-120 has 232,800 registered voters — 125,877 male and 106,923 female. In this constituency, 209 polling stations, 105 for men and 103 for women, and one combined, will be set up. Of the 671 booths, 344 will be for male and 327 for female voters.

There are 256,605 registered in NA-121 — 139,619 male and 116,986 female. It will have 264 polling stations, 127 for men and 130 for women, with seven combined polling stations. There will be 369 and 350 polling booths for male and female voters respectively in the constituency.

The NA-122 has 279,245 registered voters of which 150,497 are male and 128,748 female. Here 283 polling stations will be set up, 137 each for male and female voters, with nine combined polling stations. There will be 741 polling booths of which 392 will be for male and 349 for female voters.

There are 255,757 registered voters in the NA-124 — 137,731 male and 118,026 female. The number of proposed polling stations is 265, 132 each for men and women, with one combined polling station. Of the 715 booths, 372 will be for male and 343 for female voters.

The NA-125 has 137,693 male and 117,657 female voters. There will be 242 polling stations, 102 each for male and female voters, and 38 combined. As many as 669 polling booths will be set up here of which 355 will be for male and 314 for female voters.

The NA-126, having 271,325 registered voters, 145,698 male and 125,627 female voters, will have 268 polling stations — 133 for male and 132 for female voters. There will be three combined polling stations set up in the constituency. The number of polling booths will be 731, of which 376 will be for male and 355 for female voters.

There are 237,065 voters in NA-127, 129,853 male and 107,212 female. The number of proposed polling stations id 216 — 101 for male and 100 for female voters respectively, with 15 combined polling stations. Of the 605 polling booths, 315 will be for male and 290 for female voters.

The NA-128 has 133,151 male and 110,989 female voters. It will have 240 polling stations of which 82 will be for male and 78 for female voters. There will be 80 combined polling stations in this constituency. It will also have 344 booths for male and 280 for female voters.

The NA-129 has 211,530 registered voters of them 115,738 are male and 95,792 female. There will be 192 polling stations — 70 for male and 69 for female voters, with 53 combined polling stations. It will have 522 polling booths, 284 for male and 238 for female.

There are 232,372 registered voters in NA-130, of which 125,980 are male and 106,392 female. Of the 229 polling stations, 88 will be for male and 87 for female voters, with 54 combined polling stations. There will be 610 booths, 335 for male and 275 female voters.
