Chattha rules out alliance with PML-QA

GUJRANWALA, Sept 9: PML-C chief Hamid Nasir Chattha has ruled out the possibility of an alliance or seat adjustment with the PML-QA and announced that his party will contest the elections by fielding its own candidates.

Speaking at a party workers gathering in Buraj Mancher village in connection with his election campaign on Monday, Mr Chattha said time for an alliance or seat adjustment with the PML-QA had since been over.

He said he would continue his efforts to unite all the PML factions.

Mr Chattha has filed his nomination papers for two national assembly seats — NA-100 and NA-101 — and one provincial assembly seat — PP-102.

SMUGGLED OIL: A raiding team of the customs intelligence department seized four oil-tankers filled with smuggled oil worth Rs2.1 million on the GT Road on Monday.

Following an information that some people were smuggling oil from Iran by road, a customs intelligence raiding team set up a picket on the GT Road near Chand da Qila bypass. As oil-tankers reached there, the raiding party seized them and arrested four persons.

Those arrested are Zarif Khan, Ismail Khan, Khan Muhammad and Rashidullah Khan.

Further investigation is under way.

SHOT DEAD: A mother of two was shot dead allegedly by her lover on the GT Road here on Monday.

Raqia Bibi and her husband, Ghulam Abbas, were going by a rickshaw when they were intercepted by Rashid. He opened fire on Raqia after an exchange of hot words. The woman sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.

In another incident, a girl, Samina, was killed by a stray bullet while standing on the roof of her house in Rahwali.
