SANGHAR, Sept 9: Chinese teams have arrived to begin work on the Thar coal project, the chief secretary Sindh, K B Rind, said on Sunday.

He was presiding over a meeting, participated by DCO, DPO, all EDOs and the district Nazim, at the District Council Hall.

A railway track, the provincial chief secretary said, would be laid under the Thar Coal project within the next 18 months, besides building a network of roads.

K B Rind said that oil and gas companies have found large quantities of petroleum in Sanghar. These projects, he said, would provide a large number of jobs.

Meanwhile, some 3,000 development schemes would be completed in Sindh under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) by Sept 30, the chief secretary of Sindh said.

In the meantime, expressing satisfaction over the water position in canals, he said that there was no need for rotation.

He urged the officials to conceive comprehensive rural development schemes, saying that schemes, which provided hospital in one village and road in the other, should be avoided.

BREACH: A breach developed in the Mangli branch of Sanghar sub-division near Chak No1. Villagers rushed to the spot and plugged it. However, no damage to life or property was reported as the water accumulated in a depressed area, which saved the nearby villages and fields.
