Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Sept 9: Berthing activity at the Karachi Port on Monday was maintained on the higher side as all the new arrivals were allotted berths soon after their signal from the outer anchorage, according to KPT sources.

The off-port position was clear after the newly arrived 10 ships were berthed. Most of them are containers including Global Prosperity, Australia Bridge, Bunga Masempat, Iwato, Sima Kija and Dainty River, which will unload and load containers.

Others, which were berthed included Banglar Mamata to load general cargo after unloading raw jute, Plamer to offload rock phosphate, Islamabad to unload and load general cargo and Melis to load molasses.

Sailings were also active as six ships, Hyundai Bridge, Jamila, Global Prosperity, Jiao Cheng, Lecong and Sorena departed, while Iwato, Kota Wajar, Sima Kija and Dainty River are due to sail out on Tuesday.

Berth occupancy at the dry berths was 64 per cent, while it fell to 33 per cent on the oil piers. Cargo handling activity was modest as total tonnage was placed around the previous figure of 53,534 tons comprising 20,200 tons of export cargo and 33,334 tons of import tonnage.

The following ships are due on Tuesday: Al-Mariyah, MOL Sincerity, Dagmar and APL Portugal, with containers, Lombardia, with 75,000 tons of crude oil.
