HARIPUR, Sept 8: NWFP Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Sahibzada Pir Sabir Shah said here on Saturday that had the Saudi rulers not intervened and taken former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to their homeland he would have met the same fate as did the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto at the hands of military regime.

He was speaking at a news conference at Haripur press club.

Flanked by ATI former central president Qazi Attiqur Rehman, Ulema and Mashaikh belonging to different parts of the district, he categorically denied any deal between the military regime and the Sharif family.

He also eulogized the role of Saudi monarchy in that regard, and thanked it.

To a question, he said his party was fully determined to Islamize the country after the elections of 1997.

To this effect, he added, the ruling party, for the first time, passed a bill in the National Assembly pertaining to enforcement of Shariah in the country.

But, he deplored, the present rulers sent their government packing and the objective of enforcement of Shariah remained unaccomplished.
