MMA leaders’ arrest flayed

QUETTA, Sept 7: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Balochistan, on Saturday condemned the arrest of MMA leaders who wanted to hold a train march and said it had exposed the military government’s designs regarding democracy.

Provincial leader of MMA and a former Balochistan minister, Maulana Abdul Wasay, said at a press conference that launching of the train march was a democratic right of the political parties for contacting the masses but the government was trying to foil it by arresting MMA leaders.

He said though the leaders were released, it had proved that the government was not sincere in restoring political activities and it wanted to restrict the campaigns of the parties.

Maulana Wasay advised the government not to deceive the people in the name of democracy. He said the military rulers did not believe in democracy.

He warned that in the future any such restriction would be resisted with the help of the people who wanted the removal of military government and restoration of democracy.
