DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 7: District Nazim, Latifullah Alizai, has said a record number of uplift schemes have been completed in the district during the last one year and a number of development schemes have been undertaken during the current fiscal year.

Talking to APP here on Saturday, he said 90 per ent development work had been completed in the district under different programmes mostly for providing basic amenities of life.

He said people had expressed full satisfaction over the local government system as it was running in line with their aspiration. He said the old colonial system, under which the poor were exploited, had been put to an end after the introduction of district government in the country.

“Now people have easy approach to their elected representatives thus communication gap between public and government has been bridged up through this system,” he added.

He said the district government was giving priority to education and health sectors by providing sufficient funds for improving facilities. He said Basic Health Units and Rural Health centres had been set up to provide health facilities to the people. Similarly, he said, new schools had been set up in the district. A number of primary and middle schools had been upgraded and qualified teaching staff inducted there. The Nazim said these steps would enhance education standard besides encouraging people to send their children to the schools.

Science laboratories had been established in high schools and all amenities at these institutions had been provided, he added.—APP
