KARACHI, Sept 7: Leaders of various political parties on Saturday condemned the rangers action against peaceful teachers and students at the campus and termed it a manifestation of the dictatorial approach of the government.

Acting PPP secretary general Mian Raza Rabbani said that protest by teachers and students against forced decisions and unconstitutional ordinances was but a natural reaction because after usurpation of fundamental rights, the Musharraf government was determined to deprive the nation of the blessings of education as well.

PPP Secretary Information Taj Haider demanded a probe into the incident by the Chief Justice of the High Court.

Naib Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Prof Ghafoor Ahmad held the vice chancellor responsible for inflicting injuries on teachers and students and said he was no more competent to hold the office.

Prof. Ghafoor visited Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to inquire about the health of the injured teachers and students and denounced the excessive use of force and indiscriminate torture on male and female teachers and students and their humiliation by the rangers officials.

He further said that a simple issue has made complicated by use of force and demanded of the Governor to initiate an independent inquiry into the incident.
