Combined rivers’ flow dips

LAHORE, Sept 6: The combined river flow on Friday dipped to a seasonal low of 231,000 cusecs, and 221,200 cusecs were released for irrigation and 9,800 cusecs kept at both dams.

The Indus river at Tarbela registered an inflow of 133,000 cusecs of which 129,800 cusecs were released and 3,200 cusecs stored in the lake. The dam level now stands at 1,551.58 feet — 1.58 feet more than its maximum level of 1,550 feet. The lake stores around 7.2 million acre feet of water.

The Jhelum river at Mangla also dipped to 25,200 cusecs, out of which 18,600 cusecs were released. Storing of 6,600 cusecs took the lake level to 1,206 feet — 4 feet above the optimum level, with a total storage of around 5maf against optimum capacity of 4.6maf.

According to the barrages report, Jinnah had an inflow of 189,700 cusecs and an outflow of 181,600, Chashma 263,800 and 199,700, Taunsa 246,300 and 218,000, Guddu 252,300 and 223,600, Sukkur 106,000 and 148,300 and Kotri 30,700 cusecs with no outflow going to the sea.

The Chenab river had an inflow of 42,100 cusecs at Marala and the river Kabul 30,700 cusecs.
