VEHARI, Sept 6: A labourer was tortured to death by the city police in the lock-up on Friday.

Gulzaran Bibi told this correspondent that a city police team arrested her husband Ghulam Rasool from their union council No 1 house on Thursday night. He was taken to the city police and subjected to severe torture in the lock-up. As a result, Ghulam Rasool died.

She said her husband was arrested ‘on the order of an influential of the area’. Police registered a fake case against him after his death. Later, police took the body to DHQ hospital. Dr Ahmed Hasan confirmed his death.

When contacted, city police station SHO Saghir Wattoo claimed that a case was registered against Ghulam Rasool on the complaint of his neighbour Habibullah. He was arrested and kept in the lock-up where he died of a heart attack.

However, Gulzaran Bibi said that her husband was not a heart patient.

Ghulam Rasool had six daughters and a son.
