FAISALABAD, Sept 6: Continuing protest on Friday, more than 6,000 students of the Government College for Women, Madina Town, threatened they would boycott classes as long as the college principal is not sacked.

Principal Nargis Rafiq’s husband Muhammad Rafiq ‘raped’ the house maid at the official residence on June 8. The victim informed the principal who turned a deaf ear to her complaint. Then, the couple locked the girl into a room of their house to conceal crime.

After about a fortnight, the girl escaped and approached the area police for the registration of case against the accused. The police reportedly refused to register a case.

The victim moved the Lahore High Court which ordered registration of case against the accused. On Tuesday night, People’s Colony police registered a case against the accused and his wife.

In the ensuing days, the students staged sit-in outside the college and chanted slogans against the principal and her husband.

On Friday, the angry students threatened to boycott classes for an indefinite period in case of any leniency.

Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Rafiq has granted an interim bail for a week to the principal and her husband.

The court directed the couple to join the investigation and ordered police to produce the relevant record on next hearing on Sep 13.

In an application, the accused couple claimed they had been implicated in the case as some of the college teachers and staff were unhappy owing to their strict discipline.
