HYDERABAD, Sept 6: The US should avoid use of force against Iraq as it had “no moral or legal mandate” to launch an attack on Baghdad, this was the consensus among speakers of a group discussion, which was held at the department of International Relations at the University of Sindh. The topic of the discussion was “Iraq-US conflict.”

Eight students spoke on the occasion.

Speakers stressed on the need for renewed diplomatic efforts to defuse the situation, saying that the conflict should be resolved through negotiations alone.

One of the participants quoted the legendary Chinese strategist, Sun Tzu: “Weapons are the tools to be used when there is no alternative.” The participants of the discussion were of the opinion that use of force would only worsen the situation besides weakening the American stand on war against terrorism.

Professor Abdul Latif Tunio and Dr Lutfullah Mangi also expressed their views on the current geo-political situation.

VC VISITS PROJECTS EXHIBITION: Sindh University Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has urged the students of computer science to develop more user-friendly computer projects to meet the needs of the business community.

He was addressing the students during his visit to the thesis project exhibition held by the MSc (Final) students of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMCS) here on the other day. The students had displayed about 30 different software thesis projects. Later, the vice chancellor visited all the three computer laboratories of IMCS.

ADMISSIONS: The director admissions of the University of Sindh has notified that the last date for submission of admission forms and payment of admission fees has been extended till Sept 14.

REGISTRAR: The Vice Chancellor of Sindh University has accepted the request of the dean of the faculty of commerce and Business Administration, Professor Ferozuddin Kazi to relieve him of the additional charge of the Registrar enabling him to pursue higher studies (PhD), a notification stated.

Professor Kaziuddin also hold the post of professor in the department of commerce at the university.

The vice chancellor, in the meantime, has appointed Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro as the new registrar of the university in addition to his duties as professor in the department of geology. Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro will take over as the new registrar on Saturday.

RESULTS: The Controller of Examinations (Semester), University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has announced the results of M Ed (morning and evening) semester examinations of 2001 and the results of M Ed (morning and evening) special supplementary semester examinations of 2000.

The controller has also announced the results of BA (Hons) part-I, II, III, MA (Hons) final Philosophy and Sociology, MA (previous and final) Education, semester examinations of 2001.
