Testimonial for Stewart

LONDON, Sept 5: England wicket-keeper Alec Stewart has been awarded a testimonial season by his county Surrey in 2003, the cricket club said Thursday.

Stewart, 39, is currently playing for England in the fourth and deciding Test match against India at the Oval, his home ground.

“Playing for Surrey throughout my career has been a fantastic privilege,” Stewart said in a statement. “I hope that I can continue to contribute both on and of the pitch in years to come.”

Stewart made his Surrey debut in 1981, was awarded his county cap in 1985 and captained the side between 1992 and 1997.—Reuters
