LAHORE, Sept 1: The city has been a target of terrorist attacks throughout in the last three years wherein majority of the victims, including the dead and injured, have been civilians, despite majority of the attacks being aimed at security agencies.

Here is a chronology of the terrorist attacks in Lahore dating from the attack on January 2008, to the Data Sahib' shrine. GPO

CHOWK:

A motorcyclist blew himself up outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Jan 10, 2008, killing 24 people and injuring 80. Around 20 police officials were killed in the attack. The attack was the first major suicide attack in Lahore and shocked the people of the city. Following the attack, a wave of sympathy was generated from the people towards the police force.

PAKISTAN NAVY WAR COLLEGE:

Two suicide bombers attacked the Pakistan Navy War College on March 4, 2008, killing six people and injuring 23. However, Inter-Services Public Relations said that three junior-ranked officers were killed while 16 were injured. The attack was the second one on The Mall, one of the main roads of Lahore.

FIA:

At least 30 people were killed and more than 200 wounded in twin suicide blasts at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) headquarters on Temple Road and an office of the Special Investigation Unit in F-block Model Town on March 11, 2008.

A small truck crashed into the main entrance of the FIA building, running over a constable guarding the gate. The attacker then rammed the truck into a car parked near the reception. The blast was so severe that the windowpanes of buildings within a two-km radius were shattered.

MOON MARKET POLICE STATION:

Nine people, including two police officials, were killed while 35 others injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at Moon Market in front of Iqbal Town police station on Aug 13, 2008.

GARHI SHAHU:

Three low-intensity bombs exploded in three juice shops in Garhi Shahu, injuring five people, including two children, on Oct 7, 2008. No casualties were reported on the spot, however, a person who was injured passed away a day after the blasts.

WPAF:

Three blasts at the World Performing Arts Festival (WPAF) at the Alhamra Cultural Complex on Nov 22, 2008, panicked the people. The festival however concluded peacefully and no casualties were reported.

GOR-II:

A woman was killed and five people were injured when a mini-truck packed with explosives blew up in GOR-II on Dec 24, 2008.

THEATRES:

Panic gripped the city when low-intensity blasts targeted two theatres, Alfalah and Tamaseel, on Jan 9, 2009. No casualties were reported.

LIBERTY:

At least seven people were killed and six cricketers, a coach and a Pakistani umpire were injured in an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team at the Liberty Roundabout on March 3. The attackers fired rounds of AK-47, hand grenades and rockets at the Sri Lankan team's convoy and managed to flee the scene.

MANAWAN:

Terrorists attacked the Police Training School in Manawan on March 30. At least eight police cadets were killed in the attacks. Unofficial sources had put the death toll at 27.

RESCUE 15:

The blast killed 26 people, including an an ISI colonel and 15 police officials, injuring around 400 people on May 28, 2009, when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into Police Rescue 15 building. The explosion also damaged the adjacent office of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

BEDIAN:

On June 12, a suicide attacker killed five men, including religious scholar Sarfraz Naeemi. Terrorists tried to take over the Elite Force and police training schools in Bedian and Manawan along with the previously attacked FIA building. Around 20 people were killed in the incident.

IQBAL TOWN:

A suicide bomber killed nine people by hitting a police picket in Allama Iqbal Town's Moon Market on Aug 13, 2009. BABU

SABOO:

On Nov 2, a terrorist who was stopped at the Babu Saboo interchange on the motorway blew himself up injuring 16 people.

MOON MARKET:

Two bomb blasts were carried out in Allama Iqbal Town's Moon Market on Dec 7, 2009, killing at least 70 people. SIA:

A suicide bomber ran his explosive laden vehicle into the Special Intelligence Agency (SIA) building in Model Town Lahore on March 8, 2010 killing 13 people.

RA BAZAAR:

Twin suicide attacks targeted the Pakistani military on March 12, killing 39 people.

AHMADI WORSHIP PLACES:

Some 90 people were killed when two Ahmadiya worship places were attacked by terrorists in Lahore on May 28, 2010.

DATA SAHIB SHRINE:

Twin suicide blasts killed at least 43 people at a shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh in Lahore on July 1, 2010. At least 175 people were also injured. — Compiled from websites
