KARACHI, Sept 1: In order to help the flood-affected victims, an Iranian cargo plane carrying a 14-member team of the Iranian Red Crescent Society and relief goods and a special freighter flight of the Cathay Pacific Airways which airlifted 27 tonnes of relief goods from Hanoi and Saigon in Vietnam reached Karachi.

The Iranian plane carrying a 14-member delegation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, medicines and relief goods worth 131,826 dollars arrived here on Wednesday.

The relief consignment includes 5,200 medical and relief equipment, 141,393 canned food, 250 tents, 250 kitchen sets, 2,050 bedsheets, 1,000 bottles of drinking water and 185 plastic cover for tents. The team will set up a relief camp in Thatta in assistance with the home department and district administration.

Meanwhile, the special freighter flight (CX041) of the Cathay Pacific Airways airlifted 27 tonnes of relief goods from Hanoi and Saigon in Vietnam and reached Karachi via Hong Kong on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the Hong Kong-based airline, Meher Minwalla, said that the staff from the Cathay Pacific office in Karachi and the airline's local agent each contributed one day's salary to flood relief fund. “The airline is also running an appeal worldwide, with each dollar donated by staff in Cathay Pacific and its sister airline Dragonair being matched by the company to further boost the relief effort,” the spokesperson said. —Staff Reporter
