HYDERABAD, Sept 5: The general secretary, Hyderabad Glass Bangle Mazdoor Ittehad Union, Siraf Gaddi, has taken strong exception to the alleged breach of promise by the vice commissioner, Social Security Institution, Rasheed Alam, who had failed to visit the bangle factories of Hyderabad.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said that at a seminar organized by the NLF at Karachi on Aug 17, Mr Rasheed had given a categorical assurance that he would soon visit the bangle factories in Hyderabad to take stock of the situation.

He said Mr Rasheed had also told the seminar that a committee had been appointed to visit the factories and prepare a report about the complaints relating to social security.

Mr Siraf regretted that despite the solemn promise neither the committee nor the vice commissioner himself had visited Hyderabad even after three weeks.

He said that it appeared as if the entire social security department was being controlled by the factory owners while the poor workers were suffering the tyranny of the owners.

Mr Siraf called upon the minister and the secretary, Labour, Sindh, to take notice of the complaints of the workers and redress their grievances without delay.

JSQM: The chairman, Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM), Bashir Khan Qureshi, its vice chairman, Shafi Karanani, its general secretary, Shabbir Jamali, and its information secretary, Zulfiqar Panhwar, have lashed out at the Zeal Pak Factory administration for issuing fake cheques of golden handshake to the factory employees who have been on hunger strike since the last 52 days.
