GILGIT, Sept 4: The leaders of Gilgit-Baltistan National Alliance (GBNA) have opposed the posthumous award conferred on the widow of late Maj Brown of the British Raj by the government in recognition of his ‘sacrifices’ to liberate Gilgit and Baltistan in 1947 from the Dogra Raj.
At a press conference, the leaders including GBNA chairman Anayatullah Shumali, Maj Hussain Shah, Qurban Ali, Syed Mahdi Shah and Maulana Ataullah Shahab demanded of the government for the reinstatement of service of over 180 sacked employees of the Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) which has brought about hardships to thousands of people. Similarly, they asked the local authorities to compensate the losses that incurred during the anti-encroachment campaigns in Gilgit.
