Published September 4, 2002

LAHORE, Sept 3: An accountability court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former district council chairman Chaudhry Shaukat Ali on Tuesday owing to his persistent absence from the court.

The court was informed that summons issued for Shaukat could not be served on him since he could not be located on the address stated on the warrants.

The court further directed for the production of co-accused and former MNA Haji Kabir presently detained in Haripur jail on Sept 13. Another co-accused, Ameer Nawaz Khan, was handed down the reference copies.

Shaukat has been accused of causing a Rs50.58 million loss to national exchequer with the abetment of his co-accused by misappropriating zila council tax during 1990-92. —Reporter
