MULTAN, Sept 3: The Multan High Court Bar Association will launch a campaign on Wednesday to protest against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision not to set up an election tribunal in the city.
Speaking at a press conference, the Bar president, Arif Alvi, and secretary Najaf Ali Chaawan said that lawyers would boycott the court proceedings after 11.30am on Wednesday to protest against the authorities’ “step-motherly” attitude towards southern Punjab.
They said the forces that wanted to abolish the Multan bench of LHC were behind this conspiracy. They warned that the Bar would spearhead a boycott of October 10 polls if an election tribunal was not set up in Multan.
STIPENDS: The Punjab government has enhanced the monthly Zakat stipends of students of religious schools.
This was stated by provincial Auqaf minister Dr Sarwar Qadri at a press conference here on Tuesday. He said a Talib who was receiving Rs100 a month from Zakat funds would get Rs250, the students receiving Rs250 would get Rs500 and those getting Rs500 would now get Rs750 per month. The students of Hadis and MA Arabic would get Rs1,000 rather than Rs500 a month.
Each seminary with 100 students would get five computers as well as a monthly salary of Rs5,000 for its three teachers, he added.
