SAHIWAL, Sept 3: Insaan Dost Association president Anjum Raza Wattoo has alleged that owners of brick-kilns are violating the government’s minimum-wage rule right under the nose of labour officer.
According to a press release, Mr Wattoo said the government had notified a minimum wage of Rs184 per 1,000 bricks for labourers, who were being paid Rs120 per 1,000 bricks.
The press release warned that the labourers would go on a hunger strike from Sept 15 if the notification was not implemented in letter and spirit.
TRANSFER: The services of a lady doctor and her husband-doctor were placed at the disposal of Punjab health secretary, after an inquiry found the lady doctor guilty of negligence.
According to the inquiry report, a pregnant women approached Dr Zareena of Chichawatni THQ Hospital on Aug 21 for delivery. The doctor asked the patient to come to her clinic where she demanded Rs15,000 for a Caesarean. The woman’s husband paid Rs5,000 and promised to pay the remaining amount after the operation.
During the operation, the patient’s condition deteriorated. She was brought to the hospital where she and her newborn baby died.
The district Nazim ordered an inquiry into the matter. The lady doctor was held responsible for the deaths.
