LAHORE, Sept 2: Nomination papers of some 120 candidates for the city’s 13 National Assembly constituencies and 25 candidates for as many Punjab Assembly seats were rejected during the week-long scrutiny of the papers for the forthcoming general elections.

The last day of the scrutiny of the nomination papers expired on Monday with a very limited activity at the courts of the city’s returning officers (ROs) as they had already completed bulk of their work before Sunday.

The papers of PPP leader Karamat Khokhar (NA-128), Ahad Malik (PP-151) and exiled prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s cousin Rubina Sohail (PP-152) were rejected on the last day of the scrutiny.

Rubina’s papers were rejected for not appearing before the court to attend the scrutiny process while Ahad Malik was not cleared after he could not satisfy the court regarding wilful default charges allegations raised against him. Karamat could not tender his original graduation degree before the court.

PML-QA leader Wazir Ali Bhatti was cleared for NA-128 when he deposited Rs13,470 outstanding against him on account of the Federal Lodges Islamabad rental charges.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers would be taken up from Tuesday (today) till Sept 6 by the Appellate Tribunals.
