KARACHI, Sept 1: A fine double by one of the leading owners, Faisal Farooq’s stable highlighted the Karachi Summer Gymkhana races at the local Race Club Sunday.
The stable sent out Hiawatha in the first race and then completed the double through Navahoo Princess in the concluding event of the day.
Navahoo Princess went on to record fourth straight win while Hiawatha scored second successive win.
Both the horses were ridden by Zahid Faiz who on both occasions took his charge to the front as the gates opened and rode on a well judged pace, giving breather at the appropriate time while giving no cause of concern to the stable connections.
Both the winners were sent out by Manzoor Baran who has kept his charges in fine fettle.
Lippizanner, a three-year-old, owned by Syed Taufiq Kamal, recorded his second successive win while recording a smart time of one minute 3-3/5 seconds which held promise for a bright future.
The most unlucky loser of the day was Fizza who was beaten to second, mainly due to poor handling by rider Rasheed. He showed bad horsemanship and the connections have to blame themselves for the misfortune.
It was observed Sunday that the starting gates were in bad shape as they did not open in some races, mainly due to poor maintenance. Some well backed horses in the first and fourth races fell way behind the front runners as gates did not open.
The most disappointing performance during the day was produced by Royal Fantasy who was not handled by Kashif Qamar and her large band of supporters did not get their money’s worth.
