HYDERABAD, Sept 1: The activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians continued their protest for the second consecutive day here on Sunday against the rejection of nomination papers of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The district chapter of the party, led by its general- secretary, Mohammad Amin Lakho, staged a protest demonstration outside the press club and also observed a token hunger strike.

The protesters raised slogans of “Jeay Bhutto” and demanded to restore the nomination form of Benazir.

Speaking at the rally, Lakho criticized the duplicity of the government and warned the rejection of Benazir’s papers would harm the integrity and solidarity of the country.

He said the PPP activists were ready to continue the struggle till the nomination form of Benazir was restored.

The women wing of the party, led by the city president, Noorunnisa Abro, also staged a token hunger strike and raised slogans in favour of Benazir outside the press club.

A large number of activists of the Sindh People’s Student Federation, city chapter, led by Mukhtiar Lashari, also staged a protest demonstration and observed a hunger strike against the rejection of Benazir’s form.

Speaking at the rally, Mukhtiar Lashari, Qadir Mirani, Saleem Mir Jatt and others accused the rulers of victimizing Benazir.

They said Benazir was the undisputed leader of 140 million people of the country and to keep her away from the election process was tantamount to depriving millions of voters of their right to franchise.

They warned if her nomination form was not accepted, the party activists would stage a series of protest demonstrations throughout the province.

Protest: A group of activists of the Sindh National Party (Bhambro group), including women and children, continued their hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday against the arrest of party vice-president Agha Shamshad Mughal.
