Jobs for local youth urged

DADU, Aug 29: A partial strike was observed and a rally was taken out in Johi town on Thursday against an oil and gas company, BHP, for not providing jobs to locals.

The strike was observed on the call of the Councillors Ittihad. A large number of villagers, activists of political parties and councillors participated in the rally which started from New Chowk.

They marched on main roads of the town and staged a demonstration outside the Johi Press Club.

Speaking to the demonstrators, the councillors, Ms Mumtaz Memon and others said hundreds of engineers had sent their documents to the local camp of the BHP for jobs but the officials had neglected them.

They also complained that no development work had been carried out in the area.

Later, they observed a token hunger strike.

Meanwhile, on the instruction of the federal ministry of natural resources and petroleum, rangers, FC and army officials have been deployed for security purpose at the local camps, Zamzama field, BHP, and Lasmo in Johi taluka, and Bhit Jabal in Sehwan taluka.
