LAHORE, Nov 8: Fiery bowling by pace duo Waqas Ahmad and Faisal Irfan helped Wapda rout Habib Bank for 61 on the opening day of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I fixture  at Gaddafi Stadium Thursday.

The bankers, who earlier in the season were bowled out for 27 by PIA at the same venue, lasted only 102 minutes and just 22 overs as Waqas claimed six for 22 and Faisal completed a hat trick by disposing off Mujahid Jamshed, Sajid Shah and Irfan Fazil off successive balls to finish with three for 20.

At stumps, Wapda were 169 for eight in 48 overs, gaining a 108-run lead on the first innings. The unbroken ninth wicket partnership between  Bilal Khilji, who was forced to retire hurt by lifting delivery from paceman Shahid Nazir and Zahid Umer had so far added 42.

Earlier, Wapda’s openers Riffatullah (27) and Kashif Rasheed (19) provided a solid opening stand of 56. But HBL then reduced Wapda  to 127 for eight.

In the morning Waqas took  full advantage of the early moisture by quickly sending back Imran Farhat  (7), Tahir  Rasheed  (5), Farhan Adil (5) and Hasan Raza  (0) after Wapda captain Adil Nisar elected to field first.

Only all-rounder Asadullah Butt batted with some degree of confidence to top-score with  32.

HBL’s skipper Akram Raza did not bat as he was absent from the ground at the start of the match, leaving Kabir Khan to do the toss.
