HYDERABAD, Aug 29: The proceedings of the District Council session had to be adjourned on Wednesday till Thursday by the presiding officer, Syed Ali Mohammad Shah, following an uproar over the non-availability of water in the wake of the power breakdowns in the entire city.

Earlier, the members also staged a walk out from the council’s session.

When the session began, Abdul Qadeer Qazi, stood up on a point of order and drew the attention of the convener, Nawab Rashid Ali Khan, that not a drop of water was available for the last three days as a result of frequent suspension of the electric supply.

The members walked out of the session to lodge their protest.

The session was reassembled and the members gave vent to their anger against the managing director, Wasa, and other government departments while speaking on the resolution of Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, a labour councillor.

Mir Aslam Talpur said that since a year not a stone was provided to him in the name of development scheme and he had been tired of visiting the office of the EDO concerned.

He said that he had not received any for the development work either from the Taluka or district, and added that the office expenses of his union council were being met from his own pocket.

The convener informed the session that such was the state of affairs of finances that he had to give Rs400 for petrol for the generator of the council.

The convener left the session halfway handing over the chair to Syed Ali Mohammad Shah.

Khalil Ahmed Memon complained that his union council did not receive a single paisa from the sugar cess fund of Rs2.6 million.

He added that the funds lapsed due to the negligence of the officials and the Taluka Nazim, Tando Mohammad Khan, who had doled out maximum funds to the union council of his brother.

He said that 80 per cent revenue of the entire Taluka was being generated from his union council.

He said that the people should not be made to suffer because of the differences between the district and Taluka Nazimeen, Tando Mohammad Khan.

Naseeruddin Humayun lashed out at the managing director, Wasa, that ever since he took over the water problem had become more serious.

He added that people were staging protests everywhere against the non-availability of water as they were not concerned about any power breakdown.

Mohammad Saleem Khan described the post as wastage of time on the ground that the government was unnecessarily spending money over members of the district council and other paraphernalia.

Rana Mehmood Ali Khan and Nisar Hussaini said that while water was available in posh localities like Cantonment and GOR Colony, there was no water in the areas where the poor lived.

PROTEST RALLY: The members of the District Council staged a rally from the council to the district Nazim office at Thandi Sarak on Wednesday to protest against the non-availability of water and the frequent power breakdowns in the city.

The members came out on the roads after union council 4 Nazim, Jeeando, led a protest demonstration outside the district council.

They apprised the district Nazim of their grievances, and added that due to the poor performance of Hesco and Wasa there had been no power and water supply in various areas.
