HYDERABAD, Nov 8: The central leaders of Pakistan Oppressed Nations’ Movement (PONAM) including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch, Jalal Mehmood Shah and Hameed Asghar Shaheen arrived here on Thursday for their meet the people campaign.
Talking to newsmen at Taraqqi Passand House, Qasimabad, Mehmood Achakzai and Dr Qadir Magsi explained Ponam’s stand on the Afghan issue saying that the people of Afghanistan should be given the right to decide their fate and outside interference in the internal affairs of that country should be immediately stopped.
They said that during the war, basic human needs should be made available to Afghans and a Loya Jirga should be convened to decide the future of Afghanistan.
They said that the Afghan refugees should be registered as millions of outsiders were already living in Pakistan without any record, permission or registration.
They said that these illegal immigrants should go back to their countries.
Answering a question about the Junejo faction of Jeay Sindh Mahaz, the Ponam leaders said that the Sindh chapter of the alliance would decide about its affiliation.
JTI DEMO: The activists of Jamiat-i-Tulba-i- Islam (F) here on Thursday staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club against the American bombardment on the innocent people of Afghanistan and the detention of Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and other religious leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of JTI Sindh Hafiz Abdus Salam Memon, general secretary Abdul Latif Mujahid Brohi, and district president Hafiz Abdul Basit Dhamra regretted that for over one month heavy bombardment had been going on in Afghanistan but the UNO had refused to intervene.
They said that the people’s protest throughout the country had proved that the overwhelming majority of the masses were against the pro-American policies of Musharraf government.
Moulana Naseeruddin and Hidayatullah Mangrio in their speeches threatened the government that the JTI workers would take to streets with Kalashnikovs in their hands if Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and other leaders were not released.
PUNISHED: The SSP of Hyderabad on public complaints and negligence in the performance of duties has awarded different types of punishments to 17 police officers, including one inspector, four sub-inspectors and 12 assistant sub-inspectors, here on Wednesday.
One year service of inspector Sikandar Bhatti, sub-inspector Salman Farooqui and Mir Abdul Sattar and three ASIs has been forfeited while two-year service of ASI Abdul Ghafoor Korai has been forfeited. One-year increment of other police officers has been withheld while some have been censured.
