HYDERABAD, Aug 24: The Deputy Registrar of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, Ghulam Mustafa Channa, under directives of the SHC bench, raided the Kunri police station on Friday and found two men in illegal detention there.
The raid was conducted after the bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Moosa K. Leghari and Justice Zia Pervez, heard a criminal miscellaneous application, filed by Mohammad Ali Banglani.
The applicant stated that his brother, nephew and cousin— Wahid Ali, Zulfikar Ali and Mazhar Khan— were picked up by the Kunri SHO from his guest room.
He said that the SHO raided the guest room in search of his another brother, Haji Khan, and when he was not found, he picked up the three men.
The applicant alleged that the SHO also deprived a villager, Bijar, of Rs50,000 cash and asked them to produce Haji Khan.
When the villagers went to the police station, the SHO demanded bribe to release detainees.
The police did not obtain remand of the detainees, the applicant said.
The court asked the deputy registrar to carry out the raid, release the detainees upon surety of personal bond if they were found there and direct the SHO to appear before the court.
The court official searched the police station but did not find the detainees there. The duty officer denied that the detainees were kept at the police station.
The applicant asked him to check the private room, located in premises of the police station.
The two detainees, Wahid and Zulfikar, were found there.
The deputy registrar released them upon submitting a surety bond in a sum of Rs10,000 each. He asked the SHO to appear before the court on Monday.
