KARACHI, Aug 24: Ombudsman Sindh Justice Haziqul Khairi has called the DG MDA to appear before him on Aug 26 and file his comments in writing about the difficulties faced by the Malir Development Authority for refunding the token amount to the allottees.

DG MDA Abdul Jalil Khan appeared before the Ombudsman on Saturday and spoke about the difficulties in refunding the money to the allottees. The Ombudsman directed him to appear on Aug 26 to file his comments.

The Ombudsman had taken a suo motu action on a newsitem about the alleged delays in the refund of money to the 32,000 allottees of the New Malir Housing Scheme.

The Ombudsman took suo moto action and called the DG MDA to explain his position despite clear instructions for refund made by the Ombudsman and the Sindh High Court.

After the formation of LDA and MDA in 1993 virtually all development activities of Karachi came to a standstill, as KDA had the expertise for undertaking the development activities but all the available land, including four incomplete housing schemes, were transferred to LDA and MDA, who lacked the required financial and human resources to complete these projects.—PPI
