PESHAWAR, Aug 19: The NWFP government has earmarked Rs20 million for the construction of an open air theatre adjacent to the Nishtar Hall and the work on the project would start soon.

This was stated at a meeting, presided over by NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, here on Monday.

The meeting was held to review progress on the development projects started by the provincial government.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the government had prepared a policy to remove grievances and difficulties of the people to provide them with better civic amenities.

He ordered the executing agencies to carry out work on the project in accordance with the specifications.

Present on the occasion were: Chief Secretary Shakeel Durrani, Additional Chief Secretary Jehangir Bashar, Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed Khan, District Nazim Azam Afridi, Chief Capital City Police Khurshid Alam, CD&MD DG Malik Saad and Frontier Highway Authority MD Basharat Ahmed, representatives of the Frontier Works’ Organization and National Logistic Cell.

About the road projects, the governor said that all curves should be removed to ensure smooth flow of traffic on roads in future.

He also approved Rs10 million, as special case, for the shifting of residential quarters situated near Hayat Avenue.

The governor also ordered that the work on the construction of service roads must also be started at the same time, saying that the removal of encroachments should be ensured even-handedly.

The governor also approved the construction of another road along the Kabul River Canal, right from the GT Road to Warsak Road, crossing over the Charsadda Road, and the construction and widening of the roads along the Warsak Gravity Canal starting from Board Chowk to Ring Road via Abdara.

He directed the authorities concerned to complete technical studies and submit their proposals at the earliest.

The governor also approved the installation of lights on the Ring Road under a phased programme. The lights should be installed on the Ring Road portion from Hayatabad to Bara Road immediately, he directed the officials concerned.

He said Rs30 million had already been allocated for the construction of an underpass and a flyover at the Jail Chowk. He directed the officials concerned that efforts should be expedited to finalize the technical studies of this project.

As far as the construction of Railway’s underpasses at Rehman Baba Chowk is concerned, the meeting was told that Rs72 million had already been handed over to a subsidiary organization of the Pakistan Railways and work on the project was in progress.

The governor said that micro-planning of Regi Model Project must be in consonance with the need of the hour and all civic amenities must be made available keeping in mind aspirations of the provincial government as well as the people.
