Published November 8, 2001

SUKKUR, Nov 7: ‘Lashkary Sundi’ has attacked thousands of acres of cotton crop in Daharki and caused huge damage as the agriculture department did not come to help the growers when they called for spray in the area.

The affected growers, including Haji Gul Hasan, Ramzan Bhutto, Ghulam Mustufa Naich and others, said the disease had travelled from Jaisalmeer in India and its was damaging standing crops.

The ginners have express their doubts that because of the sever attack of the pests, it would be difficult to meet the cotton production target for the Ghotki district this year.

The growers said that because of shortage of water no other crop was sown and they feared starvation.

SHOT DEAD: A landlord of Sui Sharif, Ashiq Hussain, was gunned down by some persons near Daharki on Wednesday.

His killers buried his body in a heap of husk so that it could not be discovered by anyone.
