KARACHI, Aug 19: Addressing a press conference here at the Idara Noor-i-Haq on Monday, Sardar Ijaz Afzal Khan, the Amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Azad Kashmir, said that the Kashmir dispute could only be resolved through a plebiscite and in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He added that the UN is fast shedding its credibility for not implementing its resolutions on the 55-year-old issue.
“The image of (the) UN has widely (been) shattered in (the) eyes of (the community) of nations and people (the) world over for its failure in resolving (the) core issue of Kashmir,” he said. He vowed that Kashimiris would continue their struggle till they are liberated from Indian occupation.
Rejecting Indian propaganda on the infiltration of so-called militants from Azad Kashmir, he said that the Kashmiri freedom struggle is internationally recognized and no one can deny Kashmiris their rights.
During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, the whole western world, the US and the UN supported the Afghan people in their war. Now, when Kashmiri people are fighting for the last 13 years for the right of self-determination, how could it be termed “foreign supported militancy,” he questioned.
According to the JI leader, there are more than 0.3 million trained Kashmiri Mujahideen inside Indian occupied Kashmir, fighting over 0.7 million Indian forces for their liberation.
Receiving financial assistance from Kashmiri people all over the world, they need nothing but political and diplomatic support of Pakistani people and the world community, he added.
He urged Pakistani political parties contesting elections to adopt a clear-cut stance on Kashmir.
He also urged the government to take a firm stand to solve the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.—PPI
