ISLAMABAD, April 10 The Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA) will meet here on Monday to review the estimates for Rabi crops production and fix the targets for the Kharif season 2010-11.

An official of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture told APP that the high-powered meeting would be held under the chairmanship of Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal.

The meeting would be attended by provincial ministers for food and agriculture, secretaries of agricultures, Met Office officials and higher-ups of other concerned ministries.

The FCA would also review the overall position of agriculture outputs and data of Rabi crops including wheat, pulses, potato, onion and oilseeds, he added.

The committee, he said that would set targets for the Kharif crops production for the year 210-11 like rice, cotton, maize and sugarcane.

Besides, the FCA would also look into availability of other agricultural inputs like provision of water, fertilisers, certified seeds and other pesticides for crop production throughout the season, he added.

He said the meeting would also review agri-business support fund, projects for efficient use of water for irrigation and progress of the development and research projects made so far.

The performance of different institutions including, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), Central Cotton Committee, Pakistan Oil Seed Development Board, Passco and Federal Seed Certification and other allied departments would also be examined.

He further said that it would set the priorities for future development and research activities in different fields of agri-sector.—APP
